Seat Belts and the 179th
May 11, 2012
How do you mix the services of Richland County law enforcement with the global mission of the 179th Airlift Wing of the Air National Guard in Mansfield, Ohio?
It's all about safety and that includes seat belt safety.
May 15 through June 3 is the national seat belt safety awareness campaign known as "Click It or Ticket." It's also the time Ohio promotes it's seat message know as "What's Holding You Back?" The two campaigns mean that Richland County's police will be out enforcing Ohio's occupant safety laws.
The 179th invited the county's police agencies to join them in a promotional effort to endorse seat belt use. Parking their cruisers under the wings of one one of the C-27J Spartan cargo planes, the police and members of the Airlift Wing assembled to deliver the seat belt message in a bold statement.
Richland County Safe Communities has produced a poster available for viewing or downloading and is making the poster free to anyone who would like a printed tabloid-sized copy. Just visit the Health Department's Health Promotion office.

"It was just such a great tie-in for our seat belt awareness," said Reed Richmond, Health Educator at the Mansfield/Ontario/Richland County Health Department and a member of the Richland County Safe Communities Coalition. "Obviously, they don't fly until they are buckled in and you shouldn't fly down the road, at any speed, until you do the same."
