Ohio is Dead Last in Funding Tobacco Prevention Programs
Ohio is failing miserably to protect our citizens from disease and death caused by tobacco. Unfortunately, Ohio’s legislators chose to cut most funding for tobacco-control programs making our state last in the nation for funding these programs. Ohio has recently seen smoking rates rise for the first time in over a decade. About 17,000 Ohio kids get hooked each year. More smokers mean more deaths—over 18,000 every year in Ohio—and more costs to the state and every taxpayer.
Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death, and also costs our state over $4 billion in healthcare each year. We need to do more to fight the tobacco epidemic. We need our legislators to take aggressive action. Let your voice be heard by sending a message to our representatives that this is totally unacceptable.
