Tuberculosis (TB) Testing
The Tuberculosis program provides screening and treatment for active cases of TB and conducts evaluations for those individuals who have come in contact with active TB patients.  Program services include:

  • TB Skin Tests
Tests are available as a screening tool at the Mansfield/Ontario/Richland County Health Department.  Tests are done by appointment only on Mondays, Tuesdays and Friday at the Public Health Clinic.  You will be asked to return in 72 hours days later to have your test read by a nurse.  The cost is $13.00 and we accept Medicare and Medicaid.
  • TB Chest X-Rays
As a follow-up measure, people with positive skin tests will be referred for a TB chest x-ray and further testing as recommended by physician.
  • TB Chest Clinic
Evaluation of suspect and active TB cases by a physician chest specialist.  Medications provided for active cases and preventive medicine provided for those recommended by the physician free of charge to Richland County patients.

These services are available to all Richland County residents.  Fees are dependant on the type of service required.  No one will be denied service due to inability to pay.  Medicare and Medicaid are accepted.

Sexually Transmitted Infections
Tests for sexually transmitted infections are given at the Public Health Clinic by appointment.  If you are a minor, a parent does not have to accompany you.  Tests are confidential.  A nurse will ask you questions about your health and then you will see a doctor.  Blood will be drawn and a culture taken as part of the first visit.  Results of your tests will be available in two weeks and you will be called if further treatment is needed.  The cost is based on income, but there is a minimum charge of $5.00.

The Mansfield-Richland County Health Department provides educational speakers on HIV/AIDS and STDs to local schools, clubs, and organizations.  This is a free service.  To schedule a speaker, please call 419-774-4543.

HIV Testing
HIV testing is done by walk-in each Monday (except holidays) from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., or by appointment.  Testing is anonymous (no name is given) and confidential and requires two visits.  An oral or blood test can be done.  You will be asked to return in approximately two weeks for the test result.  No results will be given over the phone.  There is no charge for an HIV test.  You must be a parent's permissions unless you are under age 13.  If your test is positive, case management is available to assist you.
